Vipers at the Top of the Table

The Tlaxlan Vipers moved into first place last night after beating Herman's Heroes 1-0 in a hard fought match.

The Viper's, down two Saurus after last weeks brutal encounter with the Orca-Cola Killers, had plenty of Inducement Money to throw around. They used it to hired some much needed muscle in form of a mercenary Saurus (with some Guard know-how) and an Agility enhancing concoction for Mextlu the Skink.

Mextlu's expensive drugs allowed him to easily catch the first Kick-Off and he dashed up the right flank with the ball while the rest of the team obstructed as many of the Undead as possible. But such tactics exposed the Skinks to plenty of danger - as the rookie Pahtli discovered the hard way when Howler Barksalot ripped his head off in the opening minutes. But there is no time for sentiment in Blood Bowl, and the remainder of the Skink squad got on with the game as Mextlu handed the ball off to Xipatli who then took off for the End Zone to score the games only Touch Down.

The restart began with the Undead driving down the right hand side of the field. Barksalot momentarily opened a gap in the Vipers line when his razor sharp claws knocked a Saurus from the pitch. But the Vipers defence rushed in and plugged the gap - forcing the Heroes to change direction. The relentless Lizard defence, however, shut that down too and the half ended with the Vipers' still in the lead.

The second half saw more of the same. Despite being outnumbered and losing a few more players during the course of the half - the Vipers defence proved to be impenetrable. Several promising drives by the Heroes were countered by the speed of the Skinks and strength of the Saurus - the ball was knocked free three times and regathered by the Skinks who carried it as fast as possible away from their own End Zone - time ran out with the Necros still trying to get the ball across the halfway line.
